Some final news

The vet's bag of tricks ran out today

There was a brief moment of hope yesterday that things might turn around

but Rufus' health declined today

the vet didn't have any more hope that things would improve

it wasn't worth letting Rufus continue on in his condition

so Rufus was put to sleep

Rufus was survived by:

My Person

The Squishy Cat who has missed his presence for naps
Angel, who won't have a partner for Doggy Porn anymore
The Little Cat who is now licking and eating Angel's head (something he liked to do with great regularity on Rufus)
The weird cat, who's probably hiding under the bed at this moment
The Funny Walking Cat, who thought I was not in my right mind when bringing home a "gasp" dog 8 years ago
The New Cat, who's probably more concerned about waiting for her close up, from Mr. DeMille
Angel will get to eat all of the droppings from the Treat Dispensers
and the Food who has not one idea

I'm so sorry to hear about Rufus' passing over to the Rainbow Bridge. He will leave a big hole in the family, it's plain to see. As hard as it is to let go, sometimes that is the most compassionate thing we can do. But that doesn't make the choice any easier, does it.

Poor Rufus. I remember him as the most adorable puppy I ever did see, and he was so happy. Although, "rules" really dragged him down from time to time. Hopefully, he can now have all the carrots he wants without giving eye contact first.

I am so sad to read about Rufus. I broke down and cried in my office while reading this. I know my beloved Milton was standing at the rainbow bridge with welcoming paws outstretched to help Rufus pass.

I am so sorry for your loss.

I'm a new blogger and so enjoyed Rufus' "glass half empty" approach to life. I just know he was a big floppy bundle of love, a true melancholy baby. I hope you will continue to share Angel's adventures with all the cats and bunnies.

He will be sorely missed.

So sorry for the emptiness in your heart that you must be feeling.

Love,

Petey and Mica

So sad to read the news. Rufus's stories always made us laugh... and cry. Dogs add such joy to our lives that it never seems fair they have to leave us so soon. All we can do is spoil them with the love and affection they give us their whole lives. I know Rufus is waiting for his pals at the Rainbow Bridge. Thoughts and prayers from 3 Bassets (Thunder, Lightning, Sunny) and their Mom.

To Rufus' Person(s),
We are sooo sad to hear about Rufus going across the bridge. http://rainbowsbridge.com/Poem.htm
It wasn't our fault, we did NOT pray for Rufus to die; we howled at the big backwarg DOG in the sky to take care of Rufus. He probably just needed him closer to take good care of him. We know that you will miss Rufus but you did what was best for him, not what was best for you. We hear this poem too much but it was wroted for fighters and biters like your little buddy Rufus.
"The Last Battle
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this – the last battle – can’t be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don’t let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn’t want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they’ll tend,
Only, stay with me ‘til the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its’ last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don’t grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We’ve been so close – we two – these years,
Don’t let your heart hold any tears.
- Anonymous"

Backward big DOG in sky, pleez take care of little Rufus with the big floppy ears; he's special.
